Q: Tell me about the objectives and mission of your organization
A: The Beyond Coal Campaign aims to help communities effected by coal have a voice and be protected. Sierra Club emphasizes the importance of renewable energy and policy initiatives.
Q: What is your role in meeting those objectives? (Describe your position)
A: I am primarily the Community Organizer which involves fostering leadership, encouraging a voice in policy, spreading the word in media, and meeting with legislature.
Q: In what ways does the organization participate in corporate social responsibility?
A: Our CSR is carried out by holding corporations accountable for their actions, or lack there of.
Q: Does the organization work with youth or outreach? If yes, in what ways and what kind of feedback do you receive?
A: Sierra Club has a SC Student Coalition that functions nationwide on college campuses. It aims to divest campuses from fossil fuel endowments. We also hold many one on one conversations.
Q: How does the organization utilize social media?
A: We use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn, but the level of interaction varies based on which level of the organization you are referring to.
Q: Are there future plans for expansion or new projects? If yes, how so.
A: I am unaware of any plans at the national level. Our involvement/plans are already broad. We are seeking to be more multicultural by expanding into diverse communities and being more inclusive.
Q: Where does the bulk of your funding come from?
A: Our funding comes from large donors and membership fees.
Q:What major events, symposiums, and/or conferences does the organization host or sponsor?
A: Each level of the organization and campaign hosts its own events.
Q: How does the organization advertise and market these events? Which methods seem most effective?
A: We use grassroots organizing, email, social media, canvassing, and phone banks.
